Modern day navigational aids have augmented a destination based way of thinking about and moving through our cities. For the visitor to and resident in Detroit, often times home is point A and downtown Detroit point B. Everything else becomes merely a line on a map, a line which neglects the existence of people, community, culture, and history.
This project proposes an alternative way of navigating the city. Routes are saturated in stories, and neighborhoods (re)-present themselves with their voice embedded into the sidewalks and told through stops that confront the traveler through a physical recreation of emotional lessons learnt.
Travelers are asked to slow, stop, be in place, listen, and engage with the people and histories that go otherwise erased.
